A magical number this week, 10th song yé!… I thought this one would be a disaster before I started recording this morning, but in the end, i think it’s listenable even though its definitely not gonna make history…

Basically, its about relationships again, and i’ve been studying a bit of psychology recently, a lot of things about the “fear of loss”, this emotion that make you feel very attached to someone only at the point when you feel like you might never see him/her again…  To give you a nice example, I had a roommate in LA this summer who I didn’t talk to that much and I wasnt really feeling attached to him, until the day when I was leaving, then suddenly I felt almost sad of leaving him (btw if you read this Leigh no offense i still had a great time the few times we hung out!)

In other news, I got really encouraged this week, when I received some very good critiques for some of my songs that I sent to songoftheyear.com, its a songwriting contest.. i dont know if i qualified for something in the contest yet, but i received critiques from some professionals in the music industry, if you want to check them out, they are here: I Hate It AllNo Excuse, Walking Away

Ok enough blabla for today, here’s the habitual self-critique, dont forget to leave comments as usual thx!

What I like about it:

The bridge with the genius, genius, genius although now i think theres a madonna song that sounds like this im not sure yet

What I’m not so sure:

Overall, I don’t think its really amazing, maybe it would be better if i had made the chorus a bit longer.. Also, the notes for the melodies of the chorus and the verse are too similar… It lacks a special spark to make it stand out

Lyrics & chords:

Genius

F#m A F#m A Bm
Here it goes again
Yeah here goes nothing
Here you come again
With your genius plan

Here i'm stuck again
Right where you wanted
My blind innocence
Your genius plan

Your genius plan
Your genius plan

Our fear of loss
Still holding us
Our fear of loss
Bm A F#m
A fine string holding us

Here I go again
I cant feel nothing
Nor won't I feel again
With your genius plan

Here it comes again
This good old feeling
My crippled confidence
Your genius plan

F#m A Bm C#
My genius friend
With your genius plan
We both got broken
We both got broken

Our fear of loss
Still holding us
Our fear of loss
A fine string holding us

Our fear of loss
Still holding us
We mistook it for love
This fine string holding us

  1. Sam Said,

I really like that song. Don’t know about Madonna, but I like the bridge too. The only thing that feels weird is the chorus when you sing the last word like Lo-o-o-o-oss. On dirait que ca coupe trop sec. Everything else is good. One of the songs I like the most.

  2. Sisi Lili Said,

  3. Marie-J. Said,

That’s another great song and I was especially impressed by how you sing and how you play this song. You seem really confident on this one and the song forms a tight package (Haha! Doesn’t it make sense? I mean, it’s really fluid, from the beginning til the end.). I like the melody, the way you sing the genius plan at the end of each verses, the bridge and again, the confidence in your voice. That’s a nice pretty song to see people moving in front of you when you will be on the stage!

And yeah, “Sometimes” is one of my favorite too! I hope you submit it to the Song of the Year!

  4. JP Said,

The first time I heard the “Our fear of loss…..” part’s, it sounds in my hears, like the rhythm part of the “La forêt des mals aimés” of Pierre Lapointe. So, this is an interesting new rhythm in your library. All those things make me curious and impatient, about how the song will behave, with the shine of the final touch, if this one is chosen, at the end
